GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the third weekend of the 2017-18 indoor track and field season. In women's competition, Grand Valley State senior Angela Ritter earned GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week honors, while GVSU junior Bobbie Goodwin captured GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week accolades. On the men's side, Grand Valley State senior Gary Hickman earned GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week distinction, while GVSU freshman Justin Scavarda captured GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week recognition.
WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Angela Ritter, Grand Valley State
Grand Valley State senior Angela Ritter hit a provisional mark of 7.59 in the 60 meter dash, along with a first place finish during the GVSU Bob Eubanks Open on Friday afternoon. Ritter holds the GLIAC’s best time in the 60 meter dash and the third best time in Division II.
WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Bobbie Goodwin, Grand Valley State
Grand Valley State junior Bobbie Goodwin won the weight throw after she hit a provisional mark of 19.03 meters (62’ 5.25’’). Goodwin’s mark is second in the GLAIC and fifth in Division II.
MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Gary Hickman, Grand Valley State
Grand Valley State senior Gary Hickman had a standout performance at the GVSU Bob Eubanks Open, hosted on Friday afternoon. Hickman notched a provisional time in the 60 meter hurdles with his mark of 8.08 seconds, claiming a first place finish. He has the second-best time in the GLIAC with that performance and tied eighth overall in Division II.
MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Justin Scavarda, Grand Valley State
Grand Valley State freshman Justin Scavarda put on a stellar performance at the GVSU Bob Eubanks Open and hit two provisional marks in the shot put and the weight throw. Scavarda finished first in the shot put with a provisional mark of 17.76 meters (58’ 3.25’’), and placed second in the weight throw (18.24m, 59’ 10.25’’). His mark in the shot put is second in the GLAIC and fourth in Division II, while his mark in the weight throw is eighth in the GLIAC and 16th in Division II.
