GLIAC Indoor Track & Field Weekly Honors | Week 4

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the fourth weekend of the 2017-18 indoor track and field season. In women's competition, Grand Valley State sophomore Allie Ludge earned GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week honors, while Tiffin senior Monica Carson captured GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week accolades for the third straight week. On the men's side, Tiffin senior Reginald Thomas earned GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week distinction, while Ashland sophomore Alex Hill captured GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week recognition.


WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Allie Ludge, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State sophomore Allie Ludge hit a provisional mark in the 800m for the first time this season with a time of 2:10.81, en route to a first place finish on Friday during the GVSU Open. Ludge now holds the second best time in the conference and the seventh fastest time in Division II.


WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Monica Carson, Tiffin

Tiffin senior Monica Carson hit a provisional mark in the shot put at the Tiffin Dragon Open, hitting 14.41 meters (47-3.5) in the event. She finished third at the Dragon Open and currently has the second best throw in the GLIAC. Overall she is 13th in the nation in the shot put.


MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Reginald Thomas, Tiffin

Tiffin senior Reginald Thomas had a blistering time in the 60 meter dash, hitting an NCAA provisional mark with a time of 6.76 at the Tiffin Dragon Open. He crossed the line first in the event, posting the top time in the GLIAC in the process. He is also ranked 4th nationally in the event.


MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Alex Hill, Ashland

Ashland University sophomore Alex Hill continues to get closer and closer to an automatic mark for 2018 NCAA Division II indoor nationals in the weight throw. Hill’s latest effort, a winning effort at the Youngstown State College Invitational on Friday (Jan. 19), landed him Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week for Week 4 of the season. This is Hill’s first GLIAC weekly award.

With a top heave of 21.00 meters/68-feet-10¾, Hill is second in the country in the weight throw, and is just 14/100ths of a meter shy of automatically qualifying for indoor nationals, March 9-10 at Pittsburg State. Hill’s mark is the best among GLIAC weight throwers so far this indoor season.
