GLIAC Indoor Track & Field Weekly Honors | Week 5

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the fifth weekend of the 2017-18 indoor track and field season. In women's competition, Grand Valley State sophomore Allie Ludge earned GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week honors, while Grand Valley State freshman Elli Kimes captured GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week accolades. On the men's side, Ashland's 4x400 relay squad consisting of Channing Phillips, Brenden Archer, Paul Murray and Myles Pringle earned GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week distinction, while Ashland sophomore Alex Hill captured GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week recognition.


WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Allie Ludge, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State sophomore Allie Ludge hit a provisional mark in the mile during the GVSU Mike Lints Open on Saturday afternoon with a time of 4:45.50, as she placed third overall and was the top Division II athlete in the race. Ludge now holds the fastest mile time in the GLIAC, along with the second best time in Division II.


WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Elli Kimes, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State freshman Elli Kimes hit a provisional mark for the first time this season in the pole vault during the GVSU Mike Lints Open, clearing 3.79 meters (12’ 5.25’’), en route to being the top college-associated pole vault athlete at the meet and placed fourth overall. The freshman from Cashmere, Wash., now has the best mark in the GLIAC and ninth in Division II.


MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Ashland Men's 4x400 Relay (Channing Phillips, Brenden Archer, Paul Murray and Myles Pringle)

The Ashland 4x400 relay squad consisting of Channing Phillips, Brenden Archer, Paul Murray and Myles Pringle won at Penn Nationals with a time of 3:13.13 – a time which moves them into the No. 2 spot in the country. The quartet is less than a second away from an automatic nationals qualification (3:12.36).


MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Alex Hill, Ashland

Ashland sophomore Alex Hill was third in the men’s weight throw at the Findlay Classic & Elite Throws Competition, moving into the top spot in NCAA Division II in the event this season with a top mark of 21.42 meters/70-feet-3½. That distance earned Hill automatic entry into 2018 NCAA Division II indoor nationals, March 9-10 at Pittsburg State.
