ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association announced Wednesday that former Grand Valley State pole vaulter Bryant Wilson will be inducted into the 2018 Hall of Fame. Wilson joins former Laker Mandi (Zemba) Long as the second GVSU student-athlete to be inducted into the USTFCCCA Hall of Fame.

"From day one in our program Bryant (Wilson) competed with the goal of being the best in the country and four out of eight times he accomplished his goal," said head coach Jerry Baltes. "When Bryant stepped on the runway you knew you were going to get his best and he delivered some outstanding performances."

Wilson, who competed for the Lakers in the pole vault from 2006 until 2009, was a four-time National Champion with back-to-back indoor and outdoor track & field titles in 2007 and 2008. He was an eight-time All-American and a five-time GLIAC Champion. Wilson won three straight GLIAC Indoor titles from 2006-2008 and collected outdoor titles in 2007 and 2009.

During his time at GVSU, Wilson set the GLIAC Outdoor Championships and the school's record (18' 0.5"), and the GVSU indoor record (17' 5.75"). In addition, Wilson's 18' 0.5" clearing is the seventh-best performance of all-time among Division II athletes.

"Bryant worked hard on the track and made huge strides as he developed from a 14' 6" to 18' 0.5" vaulter in his four years at Grand Valley State", said Associate head coach and pole vault coach Lou Andreadis, who coached Wilson during his time at GVSU.

Following his collegiate career, Wilson was a two-time U.S. National Championships qualifier, followed by a coaching career at the University of Illinois, Saginaw Valley State and Northwood University. Currently he is an assistant coach at Central Michigan University, where he coaches pole vault.
