Indoor Track and Field Week 2 Athletes of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the second weekend of the 2019-20 indoor track and field season. Grand Valley State women captured both of the awards with Nicole Sreenan claiming track athlete of the week, while teammate Bobbie Goodwin was named field athlete of the week. On the men's side, Ashland claimed both weekly honors with Trevor Bassitt earning track athlete of the week, while teammate Nick Zak received field athlete of the week honors.


WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Nicole Sreenan, Grand Valley St.

Junior Nicole Sreenan led the Laker women at the Wolverine Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 11 with two top-3 finishes.  Sreenan took second place in the 400m dash, crossing the line in 55.19, and placed third with a time of 24.40 in the 200m dash.  This is the second time in her career that Sreenan has earned GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week honors..


WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Bobbie Goodwin, Grand Valley St.

Bobbie Goodwin has been named the GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this season and third time in her career following her performance at the GVSU Bob Eubanks Open on Friday, Jan. 10.  The Laker senior and reigning DII Indoor National Champion collected a first place finish in the weight throw with a launch of 18.98m, good for a provisional mark. 


MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Trevor Bassitt, Ashland

Bassitt provisionally qualified in the men's 60-meter dash for 2020 NCAA Division II indoor track and field nationals, March 13-14 in Birmingham, Ala., and won the event in 6.83 seconds. He also won the men's 60 hurdles in 7.93 seconds. Bassitt has the top 60 hurdles (7.88 seconds) and 400 dash (46.88 seconds) times in the nation, and the 10th-best 60 dash time in Division II.


MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Nick Zak, Ashland

Zak took third place at Findlay in both the men's shot put (16.96 meters/55-feet-7¾) and men's weight throw (20.78 meters/68-feet-2¼). He is the No. 3 weight thrower (20.83 meters/68-feet-4¼) and No. 7 shot putter (17.30 meters/56-feet-9¼) in the country.
