AUBURN, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team took time out of their busy schedules to spend a portion of their day mentoring three different classrooms of 5th graders at Auburn Elementary School on Friday, October 14.

"Anytime our program can be involved with the community it is a great opportunity," said first year head coach Jamie Pewinski. "The players truly enjoyed interacting with the three classrooms at Auburn Elementary; hopefully the kids at the school got as much out of it as we did."

The mission of Auburn Elementary School is to provide the environment, knowledge and skills that lead students to educational success.

"We had a lot of fun!" said sophomore guard Kayla Womack. "Our whole team enjoyed going and hopefully we'll continue to do things like this in the future."

Auburn Elementary, part of the Bay City Public Schools, consists of 515 students enrolled in their full-day kindergarten through 5th grade classrooms.

"The kids were awesome and it is a great feeling knowing you can make a positive impact on their lives," said Womack.
