Four GLIAC Women's Basketball Teams Earn NCAA Division II Midwest Region Tournament Bids

INDIANAPOLIS - Four teams from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) will take part in the 2013 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Midwest Region tournament this weekend in Ashland, Ohio.

Ashland University is the No. 1 seed and host for this weekend's tournament.  The University of Findlay earned the No. 3 seed after losing in the GLIAC Tournament final to Ashland on Sunday.  Michigan Technological University, a GLIAC Tournament semifinalist, earned the No. 4 seed, while Wayne State University, also a GLIAC Tournament semifinalist, claimed the No. 6 seed.

The pairings and times have been set for the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Women's Basketball Tournament, which will be held at Ashland University this Friday, Saturday and Monday, Mar. 15, 16 and 18.

The tournament opens on Friday (Mar. 15) with four games. There will be two sessions that day. On Saturday (Mar. 16), two games will be played. The regional championship game is Monday night (Mar. 18). The weekend schedule appears below. Each team's seed is also included.

Friday, Mar. 15

Session 1

Noon – Game 1 – Wayne State (#6) vs. Findlay (#3)

2:30 p.m. – Game 2 – Wisconsin-Parkside (#7) vs. Lewis (#2)

Session 2

6 p.m. – Indianapolis (#8) vs. ASHLAND (#1)

8:30 p.m. – Kentucky Wesleyan (#5) vs. Michigan Tech (#4)

Saturday, Mar. 16

5 p.m. – Game 1 Winner vs. Game 2 Winner

7:30 p.m. – Game 3 Winner vs. Game 4 Winner

Monday, Mar. 18

7 p.m. – Regional Championship Game

Ashland, Wisconsin-Parkside and Indianapolis all played in the regional tournament played last spring in Ashland. The Eagles advanced to the Elite Eight with a win over Wisconsin-Parkside in the regional championship game.

The Wayne State-Findlay game is a rematch of the GLIAC semifinal held last Saturday at Kates Gymnasium. Findlay won that game, 67-60.

Ashland is 31-1 and ranked second in the nation. AU and Indianapolis played this year on Dec. 14 in Indianapolis and the Eagles downed the Greyhounds, 70-54.

Tickets for the NCAA Regional Tournament go on sale on Tuesday, Mar. 12, at the AU athletic department offices. Ticket prices are $12 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens.
