ATLANTA - Six Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) women's basketball teams achieved WBCA All-Academic Team status during the 2013-14 campaign.
Ohio Dominican finished with the second-best grade point average in Division with a 3.793 under the direction of head coach Lynsey Warren. Saginaw Valley State and Ashland made it a trio of GLIAC teams inside the top 10 with SVSU posting a 3.61 GPA in the No. 8 spot, while the Eagles were close behind (3.605) in ninth.
Jeff Curtis' Northwood squad compiled an impressive 3.582 mark in the classroom during 2013-14 to earn the No. 14 position in the Top 25 poll. Findlay and Michigan Tech rounded out the league representation in the WBCA All-Academic Team poll as the Oilers came in 22nd (3.531 GPA) while the Huskies tallied a 24th place showing (3.522 GPA).
"Being a student-athlete is a challenging feat, but at the same time it is also very rewarding and to see the GPA's that these institutions have collected is impressive," said WBCA COO Shannon Reynolds. "The WBCA congratulates all of these student-athletes and their coaches for their hard work and dedication."
A team's GPA is calculated by dividing the total number of quality points earned by the total number of hours attempted by all team members in the academic terms (semesters or quarters) that the season spans. Weighted grades are converted to a 4.0 scale. The GPA's are rounded to the nearest thousandth of a point. Teams are nominated for the honor by a WBCA-member head coach. A team must have a 3.000 or better GPA to be nominated.
