BAY CITY, Mich. - The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and Allstate Insurance Company today announced the 202 nominees, three of them being from the Great Lake Intercollegiate Conference, for the 2014 Allstate WBCA and NABC Good Works Teams®. The award recognizes a select group of college basketball student-athletes who have made significant contributions to the greater good of their communities through volunteerism and civic service.

 

Megan Fogt
Hillsdale College

Hillsdale College junior forward Megan Fogt is off to a blazing start on the basketball court for the Charger women's basketball team. But her work off the court has her up for a prestigious national-level honor.

Fogt was one of 84 women's basketball players nationwide to be nominated for the WBCA/NABC AllSTate Good Works Award. The nomination as announced by the WBCA Tuesday morning.

There will be a total of 20 winners of this award, 10 from Division I institutions, and 10 from the NCAA Division II, Division III and the NAIA. 

Fogt is one of two players from GLIAC women's basketball programs to be up for this award, joining Ohio Dominican's Christina Pentaudi.

"The WBCA is honored to partner with Allstate in selecting the Allstate WBCA Good Works Team® for the second year," said Beth Bass chief executive officer of the WBCA. "Each of the 84 young women who have been nominated by their respective head coaches for this prestigious honor have set examples that we all should follow. The selection committee will have a difficult time in selecting the 10-member team from this outstanding group of nominees."

The selection committee is led by WNBA All-Star Tamika Catchings. Winners will be recognized at the 2014 NCAA Final Four, held in Nashville in April.

The 2014 Allstate WBCA and NABC Good Works Teams® selection panel members include:

 former college basketball players Greg Anthony (UNLV), Mateen Cleaves (Michigan State) and Alana Beard (Duke); former head coaches Bobby Cremins (College of Charleston), Seth Greenberg (Virginia Tech), Marsha Sharp (Texas Tech) and Nell Fortner (Auburn); current college basketball coach Coquese Washington (Penn State); and media members Seth Davis (Sports Illustrated/CBS), Dana O'Neil (ESPN), Carolyn Peck (ESPN) and LaChina Robinson (ESPN/FOX).

Since 2008, Allstate has partnered with the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) as sponsor of the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®, which shines a spotlight on the positive, off-the-field impact college football student-athletes have on their communities. Through an arrangement with the AFCA, WBCA and NABC, Allstate is able to expand the Good Works

Team® to also recognize college basketball student-athletes at all levels who donate their time and effort to make a difference off the court. 

In addition to maintaining a grade point average well above 3.5 and averaging 20 points and 18 rebounds per game, Fogt is a member of the Athlete Intervarsity, a Christian fellowship group on campus. She volunteers at King's Kupboard, an area soup kitchen, and the Hillsdale Collunity Health Center. 

Fogt is a native of Anna, Ohio.

Cameron Metz
Lake Superior State University

Lake Superior State senior center Cameron Metz is one of 118 men nominated for the 2014 Allstate National Basketball Coaches Association (NABC) and Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Good Works Teams.

In its second year, the Allstate NABC and WBCA Good Works Teams honor players at all levels of college basketball who represent the sport's finest in the areas of leadership and charitable achievements. The student-athletes nominated for this prestigious award embody the true spirit of teamwork and giving back.

From the 118 NABC nominees and 84 WBCA nominees, special voting panels will select two 10-member teams comprised of five student-athletes from the NCAA Division I level and five from NCAA Divisions II and III and the NAIA. Former Duke University student-athlete, two-time NCAA champion and seven-time NBA all-star Grant Hill will headline the NABC voting panel, while WNBA star Tamika Catchings, who played at the University of Tennessee, will serve on the WBCA panel.

The final roster will be unveiled in February.

Metz, who averages 17.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game for the 6-0 LSSU men's basketball team, and Hillsdale's Megan Fogt are the only Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference representatives on the nominee list.

Christina Pentaudi
Ohio Dominican University

Senior guard Christina Pentaudi (Dayton, Ohio) has been named a nominee for the 2014 Allstate WBCA and NABC Good Works Teams. The award recognizes a select group of college basketball student-athletes who have made significant contributions to the greater good of their communities through volunteerism and civic service.

Pentaudi is an active member of the campus community. She represents the women's basketball team on SAAC, helping coordinate the organization's efforts with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. She is a member of ODU's President's Society, a group of students that represent the university at major functions, and is involved in Athletes in Action.

Pentaudi also participates in the team's community outreach efforts, which include work with the LifeCare Alliance, a not-for-profit organization that provides comprehensive health and nutrition services to older adults and individuals with chronic illnesses and disabilities in Central Ohio. The team also works with the Salvation Army.

In the classroom, Pentaudi is a two-time GLIAC Academic Excellence recipient and helped the women's basketball team achieve a 3.69 GPA, the highest GPA of any program in the country.

A total of 202 men's and women's college basketball players across all levels were nominated for the Good Works Teams. Special voting panels will select two 10-member teams comprised of five student-athletes from the NCAA Division I level and five student-athletes from NCAA Divisions II, III and the NAIA.
