Complete D2CCA Women's Basketball All-America Release
ASHLAND, Ohio -- Prior to the start of the 2017 NCAA Division II women's basketball Elite Eight, Ashland University junior forwards Laina Snyder and Andi Daugherty each have picked up some more hardware for their successful seasons.
On Monday (March 20) afternoon, Snyder was named first-team All-American by the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA), and Daugherty earned D2CCA second-team All-American status. Earlier this month, Snyder and Daugherty each earned D2CCA All-Midwest Region first-team honors, and Snyder was named the D2CCA Midwest Region Player of the Year.
Snyder is averaging 16.8 points, 8.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 3.0 steals and 1.2 blocks per game this season, while hitting 50.9 percent from the field and 79.5 percent from the free-throw line. Earlier this season, in addition to the previous D2CCA laurels, she landed All-Midwest Regional Tournament team, College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) second-team Academic All-American, Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year, first-team All-GLIAC, All-GLIAC Defensive Team, CoSIDA Academic All-District and six GLIAC South Division Player of the Week honors.
Daugherty goes for 15.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.4 steals per game, while shooting 54.8 percent from the floor, 37.9 percent from 3-point range and 79.8 percent from the foul line. Among her other 2016-17 awards are Midwest Regional Most Outstanding Player, GLIAC Tournament Most Valuable Player, CoSIDA second-team Academic All-American, first-team All-GLIAC, All-GLIAC Defensive Team, three GLIAC South Division Player of the Week, U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week and CoSIDA Academic All-District.
For both Snyder and Daugherty, this is their second All-American accolade, each having been named Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) honorable mention as sophomores.
No. 1-ranked Ashland (34-0) will begin NCAA Division II Elite Eight play on Tuesday (March 21) at 6 p.m. against West Texas A&M (26-8) at Alumni Hall on the campus of Ohio Dominican in Columbus, Ohio.
