2017 GLIAC Women's Basketball Tournament Central
BAY CITY, Mich. -- The 2017 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Basketball Tournament resumed with semifinal action on Saturday (March 4) afternoon on the campus of Ashland University. The nation's No. 1 team, the Ashland Eagles, along with No. 3 Grand Valley State both advanced to face-off in Sunday's conference tournament title game scheduled for 3 PM.
No. 1 Ashland 81, No. 4 Michigan Tech 59 -- BOX SCORE
The top seeded Ashland Eagles took a 37-28 advantage into the halftime break over Michigan Tech by forcing the Huskies into ten turnovers. AU senior guard Kelsey Peare led the first-half charge with 12 points going a perfect 5-for-5 from the field, including a pair of triples. In the second half, Tech cut the Ashland lead to 43-37 before the Eagles went on a 38-14 run to eliminate the Huskies, 81-59.
Ashland limited Michigan Tech to just 33.3 percent shooting in the second half and 15 turnovers - 25 total for the contest. AU was guided by Peare's 17 points with Andi Daugherty chipping in 16, while GLIAC Player of the Year Laina Snyder recorded 14 points and seven boards. The Huskies were paced by Morgan Anderson and Lindsey Winter who each posted 15 points, while Winter also pulled down ten boards.
No. 3 Grand Valley State 71, No. 2 Saginaw Valley 58 -- BOX SCORE
The GVSU Lakers held SVSU to just 30.2 percent shooting, outrebounded the Cardinals 46-33 and controlled the paint by a 30-14 margin en route to the victory. GVSU fired 56.0 percent in the second half - including a 27-point third quarter where they surged ahead and never looked back.
Grand Valley State senior Janae Langs guided the Lakers with 18 points and ten rebounds, while Taylor Parmley recorded a double-double of her own with 12 points and ten boards. Taylor Lutz also added eight points, ten rebounds and four steals in the win. Saginaw Valley was led by Katelyn Carriere's 16 points and Emily Wendling's 14 points.
