BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly women's basketball awards following Week 10 of the 2016-17 campaign. Ferris State junior forward Rachel McInerney earned GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division honors, while Ashland junior forward Laina Snyder captured South Division accolades for the fifth time this season.
NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Rachel McInerney, Ferris State
Ferris State junior Rachel McInerney had a big week with a pair of double-doubles for the Bulldogs as FSU earned a split in GLIAC North Division action. McInerney scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds with three steals and three blocks in her return to her hometown on Thursday as FSU battled divisional leader Saginaw Valley to overtime before falling by a 70-68 count. She came back on Saturday to help FSU snap a four-game losing skid by totaling a team-high 22 points with 14 rebounds, four blocks and a steal in a 83-80 victory over Wayne State. In the two games, McInerney shot 46.7 percent from the floor and went 12-of-15 from the line, including sinking a big free throw in the closing seconds in the win over WSU. She totaled 40 points, 24 rebounds, seven blocks and four steals for the week while averaging 20 points, 12 rebounds, 3.5 blocks and 2.0 steals an outing.
SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Laina Snyder, Ashland
Ashland junior forward Laina Snyder recorded her 36th career double-double on Thursday in the No. 1 Eagles' 86-79 road victory over Lake Erie. Snyder poured in 23 points, grabbed 10 rebounds to go with seven assists and two blocks, and shot 9-of-16 from the field and 5-of-5 from the free-throw line.
