SVSU's Wendling, Findlay's Puthoff Claim GLIAC Hoops Player of the Week Honors

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly women's basketball awards following Week 12 of the 2016-17 campaign. Saginaw Valley senior forward Emily Wendling earned GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division honors for the third time this year, while Findlay sophomore center Christa Puthoff captured South Division accolades.

NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Emily Wendling, Saginaw Valley

Saginaw Valley State senior forward Emily Wendling had an impressive week for the Cardinals notching two double-doubles in the team's victories over Wayne State, Ferris State and Grand Valley State. She went for 23 points and 12 rebounds in Monday's home win over the Warriors before adding 25 points and 11 boards in Thursday's road victory at Ferris State. Wendling is now third in the GLIAC in scoring with 17.8 points and fifth with her 7.7 rebounds per game. She leads the league with her 88.5 percentage from the free throw line.

SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Christa Puthoff, Findlay

The Findlay Oilers won back-to-back conference games last week thanks in large part to the work of sophomore center Christa Puthoff. In an overtime win against Walsh, Puthoff scored 18 points on six-of-ten from the floor, grabbed seven rebounds, and had two steals. She came back with another impressive performance against Hillsdale, scoring 15 points on seven-of-ten from the floor and collecting six rebounds.
