Northwood's Nurenberg, Walsh's Wooten Earn GLIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week Accolades

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the opening weekend of the 2016 women's basketball season. Northwood senior forward Jordyn Nurenberg earned GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division honors, while Walsh senior guard Brooklyn Wooten captured South Division accolades.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Jordyn Nurenberg, Northwood

A year after leading Division II in double-doubles, senior Jordyn Nurenberg picked up right where she left off a year ago, picking up two double-doubles in a pair of NU wins. She averaged 16 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks per game. After the opening weekend, she leads the GLIAC in rebounding and blocked shots per game. She opened the year with 18 points and 16 rebounds in a 64-58 win over St. Joseph's. Nurenberg then had 14 points and 10 rebounds in a 67-42 win over Wisconsin-Parkside. Nurenberg put up those numbers despite playing just 25 minutes per game. She also reached the 1,000 point mark for her career in the win over UWP, becoming the 16th member of the club in school history.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Brooklyn Wooten, Walsh

Walsh senior guard Brooklyn Wooten had two of the best back-to-back games of her career as she averaged 30 points and eight rebounds in two games to start the season. She opened the season with 33 points on 8-of-13 from the field and 15-of-19 from the foul line against No. 20 Lewis. She followed with 27 points and 11 rebounds against UIndy. For the two games, she shot 48.5 percent from the field and 82.8 percent (24-of-29) from the charity stripe.
