SVSU's Wendling, Ashland's Johnson Selected GLIAC Players of the Week

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the fourth weekend of the 2016 women's basketball season and first week of league action. Saginaw Valley State senior Emily Wendling earned GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division honors, while Ashland freshman guard Jodi Johnson captured South Division accolades.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Emily Wendling, Saginaw Valley

Saginaw Valley State senior Emily Wendling had a stellar weekend in leading the Lady Cardinals to a pair of victories to begin GLIAC play. Wendling averaged 23.0 ppg and 8.5 rpg in the two victories. She had a 20-point, nine rebound game with three blocks and a steal in the team's 73-48 win over Hillsdale Thursday before adding a season-high 26 with eight boards and a pair of steals in Saturday's 87-58 victory over Lake Erie. 


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Jodi Johnson, Ashland

Ashland freshman guard Jodi Johnson scored a career-high 17 points in consecutive road wins over Lake Superior State (94-66) and Northwood (95-63) for the No. 2-ranked Eagles. Johnson finished the week averaging 17.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.5 steals per game while making all 16 free throws and shooting 61.5 percent from the floor and 50 percent from 3-point range.
