Ashland's Daugherty, Michigan Tech's Heise Named GLIAC Players of the Week

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the fifth weekend of the 2016 women's basketball season and second week of league action. Michigan Tech senior guard Brenna Heise earned GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division honors, while Ashland junior forward Andi Daugherty captured South Division accolades.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Brenna Heise, Michigan Tech

Senior guard Brenna Heise had a great week for Michigan Tech and helped guide the Huskies to a pair of key GLIAC victories. Heise scored 22 points against Lake Erie and powered a strong second half for Tech to pull away for the win. She also logged her first double-double of the season against the Storm thanks to 12 rebounds. She followed that up with 17 points and five rebounds in the win over Ohio Dominican on Saturday. Heise combined for five steals and three books in the two games as well. On the season, Heise is averaging 14.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. She is second on the team in blocks (11) and leads the team in steals (12).


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Andi Daugherty, Ashland

In back-to-back home wins against No. 24 Saginaw Valley State and Wayne State for the No. 2-ranked Eagles, Ashland junior forward Andi Daugherty averaged 16.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.0 steals in just 22.0 minutes per game, while shooting 68.4 percent from the field and hitting all five free throws and her only 3-point field goal attempt. Against the Warriors, Daugherty (1,095 points) passed DeAndria Bethune for 16th place on Ashland's all-time scoring list.
