Wayne State's Wilson, Ashland's Daugherty Awarded GLIAC Hoops Weekly Honors

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly women's basketball awards following the first weekend of the new calendar year. Wayne State junior guard Shannon Wilson earned GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division honors, while Ashland junior forward Andi Daugherty captured South Division accolades for the second time this season.

NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Shannon Wilson, Wayne State

Junior guard Shannon Wilson sparked Wayne State to a 77-59 non-league win over Cedarville last Friday by scoring a team-high 19 points off the bench.  With the Warriors trailing 13-10, Wilson recorded two steals and fast-break lay-ups in less than 25 seconds to put the Warriors ahead.  Wilson was 8-of-10 from the floor, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc and even had a four-point play in the third quarter (triple plus free throw) to turn an eight point lead into a 12-point advantage.  WSU's lead would never be less than double digits the remainder of the contest.

SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Andi Daugherty, Ashland

Ashland junior forward Andi Daugherty posted 28 points, the second-most of her Eagle career, and a season-high-tying nine rebounds, in No. 1 Ashland's 88-83 win at No. 4 Bellarmine on Friday afternoon. She scored nine points as Ashland jumped out to a 17-2 lead, then posted eight points as the Knights attempted a fourth-quarter comeback.
