ASHLAND, Ohio -- Ashland University's women's basketball team drew large crowds to its games on the road to the 2016-17 NCAA Division II national championship.
The Eagle women and the AU athletic department will be giving back to some of those loyal fans thanks to a contest which will allow 16 people to be a part of the team's ring ceremony on Nov. 14 at 5 p.m. at Kates Gymnasium.
Rules for the contest, open to Ashland University fans of all ages and all locations, are as follows:
- Fans can submit a video (preferred) or a letter typed or written explaining why they are a fan of the team, why being a part of the ceremony would be meaningful, how the team has helped them personally or in the community, etc.
- Videos should be no longer than 7-10 minutes, and letters should be no more than three pages. Submissions are to be sent to Rachel O'Connor, Ashland University Director of Sports Marketing and Promotions, by Sept. 29 via mail (c/o Athletic Department, 401 College Ave., Ashland, Ohio 44805) or e-mail (au-athletics@ashland.edu).
- Ashland's athletic department will choose 16 people to take part in the ring ceremony, and each of those honorees will be assigned to give a championship ring to one of the 12 players or four coaches on the night of Nov. 14. Those chosen need to be able to be present at the ceremony.
The ring ceremony will be prior to the Eagles' 2017-18 home opener against Notre Dame College on Nov. 14 at 5:30 p.m.
Ashland completed Division II's first 37-0 women's basketball season in 2016-17, scoring a D-II women's hoops-record 3,456 points in the process. The Eagles will go into 2017-18 with the longest winning streak (37 games) of any basketball team, men or women, at any level of the NCAA.
