No. 1 Ashland Advances to National Championship Game; Handles IUP, 92-68

2018 NCAA DIVISION II WOMEN'S BASKETBALL BRACKET

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The No. 1 Ashland University Eagles defeated fifth-seeded Indiana University of Pennsylvania by a score of 92-68 on Wednesday (March 21) in the 2018 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament Semifinals on Heritage Court inside the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls. Ashland moved to 36-0 on the season and ran its consecutive games streak to 73 straight victories. The Eagles will now face No. 6 Central Missouri for its second straight national championship on Friday (March 23) scheduled for 7:00 PM ET/8:00 PM CT in Sioux Falls.

Ashland ran out to a 17 point lead with 1:41 to play in the first half before the IUP Crimson Hawks cut the deficit to 12 at the break. AU then outscored IUP 50-38 in the second half as the Eagles dominated the points in the paint battle 52-34 as Laina Snyder posted an impressive 23 points and 20 rebounds with six assists, including six offensive rebounds. Senior Andi Daugherty was nearly perfect from the field going 9-for-10 for 21 points and seven rebounds in the victory, while Jodi Johnson posted 16 points and six rebounds. The defending champions fired 50.7 percent from the field and held IUP to only 37.7 percent shooting.
