GVSU's Parmley Posts 31 in OT Win in Detroit to Highlight #GLIACWBB Opening Night

#GLIACWBB -- Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) women's basketball action is underway! It was an exciting group of contests on opening night which took place Thursday, November 30th. Game summaries and results are below.

GRAND VALLEY STATE DEF. WAYNE STATE, 73-67 (OT) | BOX SCORE

Taylor Parmley posted a game-high 31 points on 14-of-20 shooting along with 11 rebounds to life the GVSU Lakers to a 73-67 victory on the road in Detroit. Grand Valley State fired 48.3 percent in the contest which featured five ties and eight lead changes, while Wayne State won the points off turnovers battle by a 30-14 margin. The Warriors were paced by Shannon Wilson's 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting to go with nine boards. 

#1 ASHLAND DEF. LAKE SUPERIOR STATE, 95-49 | BOX SCORE

The nation's top team outscored Lake Superior State 27-7 in the third quarter as the Ashland Eagles improved to a perfect 7-0 on the season to open GLIAC play. AU shot 62.3 percent on the night and recorded 38 points off turnovers compares to just six for LSSU. Ashland also controlled the paint (44-22) and the boards (27-18) as the Eagles were paced by Laina Snyder's 23 points on 11-of-14 from the floor. Lake State's Tamara Novic led the Lakers with 22 points on 9-of-10 shooting in the loss.

#18 MICHIGAN TECH DEF. SAGINAW VALLEY, 59-37 | BOX SCORE

Michigan Tech limited Saginaw Valley to just 21.2 percent shooting and four assists thanks to a game-high 20 points and eight rebounds from reigning GLIAC North Player of the Week Brenna Heise. The No. 18 Huskies shot 47.2 percent from the floor and controlled the points in the paint battle, 34-14. Tech led the entire game and used its stingy defense to hold SVSU to just one field goal in both the first and third quarters.

NORTHWOOD DEF. NORTHERN MICHIGAN, 64-56 | BOX SCORE

Trailing by nine at the break, Northwood used a 22-6 third quarter advantage to notch a big road victory in Marquette over Northern Michigan. Northwood earned the win despite losing the battle on the stats sheet as NMU owned the paint by a 42-16 margin. The Timberwolves pulled out a 32-29 rebounding edge and received a double-double from Grace German who posted 17 points and 11 rebounds, including 15 points of the bench from Taylor Craymer.

FERRIS STATE DEF. TIFFIN, 82-62 | BOX SCORE

Ferris State's Kelsey Wyman came off the bench to post a game-high 19 points and six boards to lift the Bulldogs to the victory. FSU outscored Tiffin 25-10 in the fourth quarter to pull away late. Ferris State, now 6-1 on the year overall, forced the Dragons into 27 turnovers which the Bulldogs turned into 37 points. Tiffin led by as many as 11 midway through the second quarter before FSU turned the tide in the second half.

PURDUE NORTHWEST DEF. DAVENPORT, 63-59 | BOX SCORE

Purdue Northwest won the battle of GLIAC newcomers when the Pride pulled ahead in the fourth quarter outscoring Davenport 19-13 in the frame, with eight of those points coming from Michaela Kikendall off the bench, including a big triple with 29 seconds left to put PNW up four. PNW's Shae Rhonehouse led all scorers with 21 points and eight rebounds, while her teammate Ellie Michalski recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards. The game featured 10 tied and nine lead changes with Davenport not scoring in the final 3:34 of the contest.
