Ashland's Snyder, GVSU's Boensch Claim GLIAC Hoops Player of the Week Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly women's basketball awards following Week 12 of the 2017-18 campaign. Grand Valley State sophomore center Cassidy Boensch earned GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division honors for the second time this year, while Ashland University senior forward Laina Snyder captured South Division accolades for the second time this season.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Cassidy Boensch, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State sophomore center Cassidy Boensch averaged 14.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per contest, while collecting two steals and two blocks in two victories over Wayne State and Davenport. Boensch scored 11 points and pulled down nine rebounds in a 71-41 win against Wayne State before pouring in 17 points and pulling down another nine rebounds in a 56-47 triumph over Davenport. Boensch fired 64.7% on the week as the Lakers improved to 20-4 on the week and 13-3 in league action.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Laina Snyder, Ashland

Ashland University senior forward Laina Snyder had a strong all-around week for the No. 1-ranked Eagles in home wins over Lake Superior State and Ferris State - and moved closer to program history in the process. Snyder averaged 21.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 5.0 steals and 1.5 blocks per game, while hitting 57.1 percent from the field, 2-of-3 from 3-point range and 9-of-11 from the free-throw line. Against the Lakers, Snyder became the second player in program history to go past 2,000 career points, and became the 32nd player in NCAA Division II women's basketball history to collect at least 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career. Snyder now has 2,039 career points, just 46 away from tying Amber Rall (2,087) for the all-time program lead.
