Wayne State's Wilson, Grand Valley State's Boensch Selected GLIAC Hoops Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly women's basketball awards following Week 13 of the 2017-18 campaign. Grand Valley sophomore center Cassidy Boensch earned GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division honors for the third time this season, while Wayne State senior guard Shannon Wilson captured South Division accolades for the second time this year.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Cassidy Boensch, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley sophomore center Cassidy Boensch scored 23 points on 10-of-13 shooting while pulling down seven rebounds in the Lakers overtime loss to #1 Ashland. Boensch followed that performance up with a double-double after scoring 21 points and collecting 11 rebounds. She fired 77.3 percent on the weekend while tallying three blocks and three assists as well. For the week, Boensch averaged 22.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per contest.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Shannon Wilson, Wayne State

Wayne State senior guard Shannon Wilson helped the Warriors to a pair of victories to secure home court for the opening round of the GLIAC Tournament. In Thursday's win at SVSU, she had a game-high 13 rebounds and tied for the team lead with three assists. In Saturday's triumph over Northwood, Wilson had game-high totals of 27 points and five assists, while tying for game-high rebounding honors with six. For the week, she averaged 17.5 points per game, while shooting 48 percent (13-of-27) from the floor. Wilson contributed 9.5 rebounds per game, 4.0 assists, and 1.0 steals, while playing 77 minutes.
