GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly women's basketball awards following Week 8 of the 2017-18 campaign. Ferris State University senior center Rachel McInerney earned GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division honors, while Ashland University sophomore guard Jodi Johnson captured South Division accolades for the third time this year.
NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Rachel McInerney, Ferris State
Ferris State University senior center Rachel McInerney had a big week for the Bulldogs as FSU split two games against Upper Peninsula foes Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena. McInerney tallied a season-high 30 points and 16 rebounds with two blocks, two steals and an assist as the Bulldogs nearly upset 16th-ranked Michigan Tech in a 80-77 setback on Thursday (Jan. 11) in a game in which FSU led for more than 36 minutes. On Saturday (Jan. 13), she had another big performance with a team-high 19 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block as FSU led for another 37 minutes in a 62-52 triumph over Northern Michigan. For the weekend, she tallied 49 points, 27 rebounds, five assists, four steals and three blocks while shooting 57% from the floor and 90% from the free throw line.
SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Jodi Johnson, Ashland
Ashland University sophomore guard Jodi Johnson turned in another strong overall week and tied a program record in the process. In home wins for the No. 1-ranked Eagles over Grand Valley State (83-67 on Jan. 11) and Purdue Northwest (120-47 on Jan. 13), Johnson averaged 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 8.0 steals per game, while shooting 64.7 percent from the field, 75.0 percent from 3-point range and 76.5 percent from the free-throw line. Johnson tied a 25-year-old Ashland record when she recorded 10 steals against the Pride. Andreas Forester originally set the mark on Nov. 24, 1993 vs. Tampa.
