Ashland's Johnson, Grand Valley State's Koenig Collect GLIAC Hoops Weekly Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly women's basketball awards following Week 9 of the 2017-18 campaign. Grand Valley State junior guard Natalie Koenig earned GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division honors, while Ashland University sophomore guard Jodi Johnson captured South Division accolades for the fourth time this year.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Natalie Koenig, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State junior guard Natalie Koenig averaged 20.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists to go along with three total steals in two GVSU victories last week. The Wauseon, Ohio native was lights out in GVSU's 80-40 victory over Lake Superior State at the DeltaPlex Arena, as she scored a season-high 22 points on 7-of-8 shooting, including a perfect 4-for-4 performance from beyond the arc. Koenig followed up with a 19 point, five rebound, two steal encore performance in a 76-57 victory over Ferris State that helped the Lakers become winners in nine of their last 10 games and improve to 16-3 overall (9-2 GLIAC). On the week, Koenig shot 62 percent (13-of-21) from the floor, and made 8-of-12 3-point attempts (67%), while totaling six rebounds, four assists, and three steals in a combined 23.5 minutes per game. 


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Jodi Johnson, Ashland

Ashland University sophomore guard Jodi Johnson followed up a GLIAC South Player of the Week honor in Week 8 with a two-game road trip in which her performances were even better. In wins at Saginaw Valley State (112-69 on Jan. 18) and Northwood (113-75 on Jan. 20), Johnson averaged 26.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game, while shooting 79.2 percent from the field, 80.0 percent from 3-point range and 85.7 percent from the free-throw line. Her 30 points at Northwood are second-most in her 56-game Eagle career (31 at home vs. Notre Dame College on Nov. 14, 2017).
