ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Cassidy Boensch of Grand Valley State University has been named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Women's Division II National Player of the Week for the week ending February 3.
The junior center was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) South Player of the Week after helping the No. 15 ranked Lakers to a 2-0 record, which included a 73-71 victory over No. 3 Ashland. She averaged 26.0 points, 14.5 rebounds and 5.0 blocks per game.
The Au Gres, Mich., native tallied game highs of 21 points and 16 rebounds in a 78-50 victory at Wayne State, while also adding three blocks. She was 7-of-15 from the field and a 7-of-7 at the free throw line.
In helping Grand Valley State hand Ashland just its second loss of the season and snap its 50-game home winning streak, Boensch poured in 31 points to go with 13 rebounds to notch her 15th double-double of the season, while also adding seven blocks and an assist. She was 14-of-23 from the field and made all three free-throw line.
Boensch finished the week shooting 55.3 percent (21-of-38) from the field and a perfect 10-of-10 from the free-throw line.
She leads the GLIAC in points per game (19.6) and rebounds per game (12.1).
