FSU's Huggins and NU's German are women's basketball players of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced women's basketball player of the week honors for Week 16 of the 2018-19 season. Ferris State sophomore guard Shaniya Huggins was named GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division Player of the Week, while Northwood senior center Grace German captured South Division honors for the fifth time.

NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Shaniya Huggins - Ferris State

Ferris State sophomore guard Shaniya Huggins (Grand Rapids, Mich.) led the Bulldogs to a big road win over Lake Superior State to close out the regular-season on Thursday night. She tallied a game-high 18 points with six rebounds, five assists and a steal in the 69-59 triumph as FSU clinched the number five seed for the league tournament. Huggins shot 53 percent from the floor and hit a huge three late in the second half with the Lakers trying to rally. Her play was critical as FSU played without a starter in Riley Blair due to injury. The victory assured FSU of the program's first winning campaign since 2011-12 as the Bulldogs notched their 14th victory of the season.

SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Grace German - Northwood

Grace German (Fort Wayne, Ind.) had the best game of her career on Senior Day, finishing with 23 points, 19 rebounds and three blocked shots to lead Northwood to a 73-42 win over rival Saginaw Valley. She was 10-of-14 from the floor and finished with seven offensive rebounds in the win. German, a senior center, nearly matched the rebounding total of SVSU in the game, totaling 19 alone compared to 22 for all of the Cardinals team. German now has five double-doubles in the last seven games.
