Ferris State's Huggins and Ashland's Loomis earn GLIAC Player of the Week honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced women's basketball player of the week honors for Week Three of the 2018-19 season. Ferris State sophomore guard Shaniya Huggins earned GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division honors, while Ashland junior forward Sara Loomis captured South Division accolades.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Shaniya Huggins - Ferris State

Huggins had a big week for the Bulldogs as they split contests at Hillsdale and Lewis. She averaged 18 points and shot 50 percent from the floor as Ferris State beat Hillsdale 91-77 last Monday and lost 77-72 Sunday. She totaled 19 points with two rebounds, two steals and an assist against the Chargers. Huggins contributed 17 points and two steals at Lewis. For the week she was 16-of-32 from the field.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Sara Loomis - Ashland

Loomis averaged 23 points, 13.5 points and three blocks per game for the No. 2-ranked Eagles during their Thanksgiving Tournament at Kates Gymnasium. She shot 64 percent from the field, 72.7 percent from three-point range (8-of-11) and 75 percent at the free-throw line as Ashland beat Missouri S&T, 100-72, and Slippery Rock, 118-62. She set career highs of 27 points against Missouri S&T and 17 rebounds against Slippery Rock.
