FSU's Blair, GVSU's Boensch Named Women's Basketball  Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced weekly awards following the eleventh week of the 2019-20 season. For the second consecutive week, Ferris State senior forward Riley Blair earned GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division Player of the Week honors, while Grand Valley State Senior center Cassidy Boensch captured South Division Player of the Week.

 


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Riley Blair - Ferris State 

Ferris State University senior forward Riley Blair had another big week for the Bulldogs as they stretched their winning streak to seven consecutive games and moved into first place in the GLIAC North Division. Blair averaged 22.5 points along with 8.5 rebounds for the Bulldogs while totaling 45 points, 17 rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block in combined wins over Wisconsin-Parkside and Purdue Northwest. She totaled a game-high 29 points with eight boards and two steals in Thursday's impressive 78-53 divisional showdown victory over the Rangers and then came back with 16 points, nine boards and three assists in Saturday's 77-70 overtime win over the Pride. For the week, she shot an impressive 61.5% from the floor and went 11-of-11 (100%) from the free throw line along with two-of-three (.667) behind the three-point arc.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Cassidy Boensch - Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State senior center Cassidy Boensch has earned her fourth GLIAC South Division Player of the Week honor of the season and the 12th of her career after leading the Lakers to a pair of wins over Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan last week. The Au. Gres, Mich native moved into fifth all-time in program history for points scored (1,593 points) on Thursday in the 70-44 win over Michigan Tech, finishing with 20 points, seven rebounds, and four blocks. Boensch followed that performance with her 36th career double-double as she scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds during Saturday’s 58-41 victory against Northern Michigan. The senior center currently leads the GLIAC in field goal percentage (60.2%) and blocks per game (3.5), while ranking second in points per game (20.2) and rebounds per game (9.1).
