FSU's Blair, GVSU's Boensch Earn Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced weekly awards following the fourth week of the 2019-20 season. Ferris State senior guard Riley Blair was named GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division Player of the Week, while Grand Valley St. senior center Cassidy Boensch captured South Division honors.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Riley Blair - Ferris State

 Ferris State senior forward Riley Blair had another huge game on Sunday (Dec. 1) as the Bulldogs rolled past visiting Lewis 88-69 in regional action at Jim Wink Arena. Blair scored a game-high 28 points, including 22 in the first half as FSU put the game away versus the Flyers. She went 12-of-14 (85.7%) from the floor and hit all four of her three-point attempts in the game while adding four rebounds, two steals and an assist in only 20 minutes of action as FSU improved to 5-1 overall this year. It marked her second consecutive game with 27 points or more for the Bulldogs.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  Cassidy Boensch - Grand Valley St. 

 Senior center Cassidy Boensch posted her third double-double of the season with a 21-point 11 rebound performance in an 80-54 win over Central State (OH) last Wednesday (Nov. 27). The Au. Gres, Mich. native also recorded four block shots and currently ranks fifth in the country in block shots per game (3.8), while the team leads the nation in block shots per game (8.0). Boensch, the Preseason GLIAC Player of the Year, is currently averaging 17.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per game to help lead the #3 ranked Lakers to a 6-0 record.
