GVSU's Spitzley honored as GLIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced that Grand Valley State senior guard Emily Spitzley has been recognized as  GLIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week following week eight of the 2022-23 season. 


PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Emily Spitzley, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley fifth-year guard Emily Spitzley played a big role in leading the Lakers to a 2-0 record this past weekend. Spizley averaged 21.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in wins over Parkside and Purdue Northwest. In the win over Parkside, Spitzley went off for a career-high 31 points, shooing 61.1% from the field and 55.6% from three, while adding seven rebounds and three assists. In that game, she became the 27th Laker in program history to surpass the 1,000 point mark in her career. To cap off the weekend, Spitzley scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds in the defeat of Purdue Northwest. She scored 10 of her points in the fourth quarter to ice the game away for the Lakers and keep them atop the GLIAC standings.
