BAY CITY, Mich. -- Grand Valley State University sophomore Kelly Hartigan (Lake Orion, Mich.) has earned the 2013 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Golf "Athlete of the Year" award as announced by the conference office. Hartigan posted the lowest stroke average among the GLIAC's women's golfers this season. Ashland University rookie Ali Green (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota West) was named the conference's "Freshman of the Year" while University of Findlay head coach Al Baker was tabbed as the GLIAC "Coach of the Year".

Hartigan, a sophomore, posted arguably the best individual season in GVSU history. She led the Lakers on the final day of the GLIAC championship to record a one-over round of 73 as GVSU claimed its sixth straight GLIAC Crown.  The sophomore finished with a 221 (+5) for the three-day tournament, winning medalist honors by six strokes. On the year, Hartigan won four tournaments and finished in the top-seven eight times. She had a scoring average of 76.3 which is the fourth-best scoring average in team history.  Hartigan was the 2012 GLIAC Freshman of the Year and earned a spot on the All-GLIAC First Team in her rookie season as well.

Green has helped lead the Eagles to the second appearance at the NCAA Division II Championships in school history. She finished second at the GLIAC Championships and followed that up by placing 31st at the NCAA Regional Tournament. Green is the second AU player to be named the GLIAC "Freshman of the Year," former All-America Erin Misheff also received the award.

Baker led the Oilers to a fourth place finish at the 2013 GLIAC Championship and then saw his team place fourth at the East Regional.  A 21-year leader of the Oilers men's and women's golf programs, Baker was named the 2002 and 2008 GLIAC "Coach of the Year" for men's golf.  He has also led the Oilers to 65 tournament victories during his career.
