BAY CITY, Mich. — The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced its 2015 All-GLIAC Women's Lacrosse teams between the semifinal matches of the GLIAC Tournament on Friday evening (May 1).
Findlay sophomore Kyra Bradley was named the 2015 GLIAC Attacker of the Year. The Port Coquitlam, British Columbia native finished the season at the top of the GLIAC in both points and goals, with 85 points (75 goals/10 assists). Kyra also broke the single season goal record for the Oilers, in addition to picking up her 100th career goal this season.
Findlay junior Sarah Lankton was named the 2015 GLIAC Midfielder of the Year. Sarah is taking home this honor for the second straight season. Lankton led the conference in draws, personally collecting 89, as well as helping Findlay collect the most draws per team with 261 on the season and 121 in conference play. Lankton also leads the conference in ground balls (33) and has 60 on the whole season. Lankton set a new school record for career goals by picking up her 200th goal this season.
Grand Valley State senior Alyssa Neuman was named the 2015 GLIAC Defender of the Year. The Rockford, Michigan senior, was named the Defender of the Year for the third straight season. Neumen headlined a defense that was tops in the conference in caused turnovers (184), goals allowed (122) and goals-against-average (7.18). Individually, Neumen leads the team in caused turnovers (21), while ranking fourth with 26 ground balls. GVSU's defensive units also ranks #8 in Division II for scoring defenses.
Lake Erie's Taylor Mathis was named the 2015 GLIAC Freshman of the Year. The Corning, New York native finished the season with 52 points on 43 goals and 9 assists. Mathis who was also a 2015 First Team All-Conference performer, led the Storm with 62 draw controls – good for 3rd in the conference. Named a co-captain prior to the 2015 season as a freshman, Taylor started and played in all 15 games. She was impressive not only scoring goals, but in causing turnovers on the ride.
Tiffin senior Jessica Bombard was named the 2015 GLIAC Goalkeeper of the Year. The Henrietta, NY native took home the goalkeeping honor for the third straight season. Bombard finished the season ranked 4th in DII lacrosse with an impressive .541% save percentage, allowing only 167 goals all season and picking up 197 saves. In conference play, Bombard saved 55.3% of the shots she saw and allowed only 10.51 goals per game.
For the third straight year, Grand Valley State University's Alicia Groveston has been named GLIAC Coach of the Year. Groveston led the Lakers to an impressive 13-4 overall record, including 7-0 in conference play. With their undefeated record in conference, the Lakers became the 2015 GLIAC Regular Season Lacrosse Champions for the third straight year. The Lakers have had a stellar season on the Division II scene, with #6 NCAA Ranking in the North Region and are currently ranked #16 overall in Division II by the IWLCA Coaches Poll. Groveston's team is ranked 8th in DII lacrosse for both scoring offense and scoring defense this season.
