BAY CITY, Mich. — The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced its 2016 All-GLIAC Women's Lacrosse teams at the banquet on the eve the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals on Thursday evening (May 5).
Tiffin senior Emily Roussel earned her second GLIAC Attacker of the Year honor in 2016 as well as her third consecutive First Team All-GLIAC honor and fourth All-GLIAC honor overall. Roussel led the conference in goals with 74 and points with 84. She also ranks fourth nationally in goals per game.
Findlay's Sarah Lankton has been selected the 2016 GLIAC Midfielder of the Year. Lankton, who was also tabbed first team all-conference for the fourth straight year, native ranks fourth in the GLIAC with 52 goals on the year and leads the league with 65 ground balls. She also ranks second in the conference with 95 draw controls and second in the league in caused turnovers with 26. The Carmel, Ind. native was a first team all-region performer for the Oilers last season and was also named third team All-American.
Grand Valley State senior Caitlin Wojichowski has been named the 2016 GLIAC Defender of the Year. A native of Milford, Michigan, the senior defender led a Laker defense that ranked atop the conference in caused turnovers (187), goals against (8.46) and total goals allowed (144). Individually, Wojichowski started all 17 games and caused a team-leading 25 turnovers while picking up 27 ground balls to rank fourth on the team and chipping in two goals.
Indianapolis' Irene Carlquist helped lead the Greyhounds to a fifth place conference finish in their inaugural season as a program on her way to earning GLIAC Freshman of the Year honors. She finished second in the conference in saves with 164, starting all 18 games in cage for UIndy. The freshman had five games with double-digit saves, including a season-best 16 in the team's GLIAC opener against McKendree on March 5. Her save percentage of 43.2% ranked fifth in the GLIAC, as well.
Tiffin rookie Kat Schneeberger made an impression in her freshman season, earning 2016 GLIAC Goalkeeper of the Year. Schneeberger led the conference with 12 wins and was second in save percentage while also finishing third in saves and goals against average.
Grand Valley State head coach Alicia Groveston has been named the 2016 GLIAC Coach of the Year. Currently in her fifth year as head coach of the Lakers, Groveston has led the team to a 13-4 overall record and an 11-1 record in the GLIAC, giving her a lifetime record of 64-25 during her time with Grand Valley State. Their 11-1 conference record earned them their fourth consecutive GLIAC regular season title and the top-seed in the GLIAC Tournament for the fourth year in a row.
