GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced its fifth GLIAC Lacrosse Athlete of the Week awards of the 2018 season. This week Tiffin senior midfielder Elle MacMillan earned GLIAC Offensive Athlete of the Week accolades, while Grand Valley State senior goalkeeper Brianna DeMilia earned GLIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week recognition.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Elle MacMillan, Tiffin
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Brianna DeMilia, Grand Valley State
Laker cage-minder Brianna DeMilia made 29 saves over the weekend and scooped three key ground balls between the two GLIAC contests. DeMilia stopped 12 shots against No. 8 Indianapolis Thursday night to help the Lakers secure a 17-10 win in their 2018 home opener. The senior was up to the task again Saturday, setting the Laker single-game record with 17 stops against the McKendree Bearcats while collecting a pair of ground balls and forcing a big turnover in the second half. The Lakers won 19-13 despite being out-shot in the match thanks, in large part, to DeMilia’s defensive efforts. The Lakers remain the only undefeated team in conference play and have won six straight matches overall. DeMilia’s 82 saves on the season rank third in the GLIAC and she leads the conference in save percentage, stopping 50.9% of the shots she’s faced this year.
