Davenport sweeps women's lacrosse Week 1 honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced the first GLIAC Lacrosse Athlete of the Week awards for the 2019 season. Davenport claimed both honors as junior attacker Taylor Ries was named Offensive Player of the Week, and sophomore goaltender Makenna Pitchford earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Taylor Ries - Davenport

Davenport junior attacker Taylor Ries (Ada, Mich.) had a monster week offensively. Ries recorded 17 points in two road games for Davenport. She had three goals and six assists in a close loss against nationally-ranked Florida Tech, then followed that up with one goal and seven assists in a win against Palm Beach Atlantic. The seven assists by Ries against PBA ties for the fourth most in a game by an individual at Davenport. Ries currently leads the GLIAC in points (25) and assists (16).

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Makenna Pitchford - Davenport

Davenport sophomore goaltender Makenna Pitchford (Caledonia, Mich.) stood her ground in the net during two non-conference games. She recorded 28 saves and 10 ground balls over the two contests while playing all 120 minutes. Pitchford saved 48.3 percent of the 58 shots she face. Her 37 saves and 12 ground balls lead the league. Also, her 16 saves against Florida Tech ties for the 10th most in school history for a single game.
