GVSU's Neil and Fitzgerald sweep lacrosse player of the week awards

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced the Week 5 GLIAC Lacrosse Athlete of the Week awards for the 2019 season. Grand Valley State senior Kelley Fitzgerald was named Offensive Player of the Week, while GVSU freshman Payton Neil was named Defensive Player of the Week.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Kelley Fitzgerald - Grand Valley State

Senior Kelley Fitzgerald (Powell, Ohio) totaled four goals and 12 assists for the weekend as Grand Valley State beat McKendree, 17-5, and Maryville, 20-1. She scored on all four shots on goal against Maryville and had one caused turnover. Fitzgerald ranks third in the GLIAC in assists with 28.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Payton Neil - Grand Valley State

Freshman Payton Neil (Grand Rapids, Mich.) allowed five goals and toaled 13 saves to secure the victory over McKendree. While playing 30 minutes against Maryville, she faced no shots. Neil ranks third in the GLIAC in goals-against at 7.14.
