2019 Women's Lacrosse All-GLIAC Teams and special honors are announced

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its 2019 All-GLIAC Women's Lacrosse teams at the banquet on Thursday evening, prior to the GLIAC Tournament semifinals.

ATTACKER OF THE YEAR: Destinie Katz - Indianapolis

Despite playing in just 12 games this season, Destinie Katz has been one of the most entertaining players to step foot on the lacrosse field so far this season. The attacker out of Manorville, N.Y., posted 92 points, which ranks second in the conference behind teammate Grace Gunneson. Katz handed out 58 assists to go along with 34 goals this season, the former already being a program record. Averaging 7.7 points per game, the junior has put up video-game numbers since the season opener when she put up nine points in the win over Findlay. Katz has recorded at least seven points on eight occasions this season, including a program-record 13 against Lewis on March 5 and at Ashland on April 26.

MIDFIELDER OF THE YEAR: Carly Shisler - Grand Valley State

Carly Shisler is an All-GLIAC performer for the second straight year and becomes the second straight Laker to earn the conference Midfielder of the Year Award. This season, Shisler ranks in the GLIAC top ten in four different stats; ranking third in goals (57), fifth in caused turnovers (22) and sixth in points (77) and draw controls (81), one draw control away from matching the GVSU single-season record, while also posting 20 assists on the year. True to the midfield role, the Naperville, Ill., native has earned both an offensive and defensive player of the week nod from the GLIAC this season. A team captain in 2019, Shisler helped the Lakers transition to a new head coach with a 13-3 regular season record and 10-1 GLIAC mark for her senior campaign.

DEFENDER OF THE YEAR: Riley McClure - Indianapolis

Riley McClure has been a mainstay on the UIndy back line since her freshman campaign in 2017, now earning first-team All-GLIAC honors for the third straight season. The Ancaster, Ontario, native claims GLIAC Defender of the Year accolades for the second straight season after posting 45 ground balls and 43 caused turnovers through 17 games. The junior ranks seventh and second in those respective categories among all GLIAC players, while her 67 draw controls is good for 10th in the league. McClure also tallied three goals and two assists this season.

GOALKEEPER OF THE YEAR and FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR: Cassidy King - Indianapolis

As one of the top rookie netminders in all of NCAA Division II, Cassidy King was named the GLIAC Freshman and Goalkeeper of the Year on Thursday evening. The Canandaigua, N.Y., product produced a .534 save percentage in 16 games this season, including a 4.80 goals-against average (GAA). Her numbers are even more eye-popping in the 11 league games she played in, upping her save percentage to nearly 61 percent and her GAA down to 4.13. King is the third Greyhound to be dubbed the top rookie in the GLIAC in program history, following Irene Carlquist in 2016 and Lauryn Hardoy in 2018. The keeper also scooped up 29 ground balls this season, as well as caused 15 turnovers.

COACH OF THE YEAR: James Delaney - Indianapolis

A year removed from winning IWLCA Midwest Region Coach of the Year, UIndy head coach James Delaney has been named the GLIAC Coach of the Year in just his second season at the helm. The Greyhounds are 16-1 this season, and have gone 32-5 under Delaney since 2018. With Delaney, UIndy remains atop the NCAA Division II leaderboards in scoring offense (21.35 goals per game) and scoring defense (3.94 goals allowed per game). The Greyhounds are currently on pace to break the current NCAA Division II goals per game record, which is currently held by Adelphi (21.20 in 2011).
