GVSU's Champagne , Du's Haynes Earn Women's Lacrosse Weekly Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced the seventh GLIAC Lacrosse Athlete of the Week awards for the 2021 season. Grand Valley State freshman Maddy Champagne was selected Offensive Player of the Week, while Davenport freshman Maddy Haynes was named Defensive Player of the Week.  


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Maddy Champagne, Grand Valley St. 

After leading the Lakers to a pair of wins over Northern Michigan, Maddy Champagne collected her third GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week nod.  The freshman now stands atop the GLIAC leaderboard in goals (37) and free position goals – shots, netting 10 out of 13.  Champagne scored nine goals and dished out three assists over the two-game series while also winning a total of 13 draws.  GVSU holds sole possession of first-place in the GLIAC with a perfect 5-0 record entering the last two weeks of the regular season. 


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Maddy Haynes, Davenport

Davenport freshman, Maddy Haynes, was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Panthers to their first-ever victories over Concordia-St. Paul. Prior to this weekend, the Panthers were 0-5 against the Golden Bears. Haynes notched six ground balls and six caused turnovers for the week as the Panthers outscored the Golden Bears by a total of 31-16, including 20-5 in the second half alone. This marks the fourth weekly honor for Davenport this season and ninth overall since joining the league prior to the 2018 season, which includes five on defense and four on offense. With that being said, Haynes is the first Panther freshman to garner recognition on the defensive end.
