Lake Erie's Vandermeer Earns GLIAC Wrestler of the Week Honors

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced Lake Erie junior Nicholas Vandermeer as the first GLIAC Wrestler of the Week for the 2016 season.

Highlights: 

Lake Erie College wrestling's Nicholas Vandermeer was named both GLIAC Wrestler of the Week and D2Wrestle.com Regional Wrestler of the Week for his wins against the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown and Ashland University. 

Vandermeer entered the weekend contests ranked eighth nationally at 174-pounds. Against Pitt-Johnstown, Vandermeer collected a 5-2 decision over returning All-American John Blankenship. The following day, Vandermeer bested Jordan Murphy 10-6 for a key regional win.

Zeb Beam (Ashland)
Beam went 2-0 in the Eagles' dual meets last week against Case Western Reserve and Lake Erie. Beam won by major decision 12-3 over the Spartans' Connor Gordon, on Wednesday. On Saturday, Beam leveled his season record at 8-8 after defeating Christian Baughman of Lake Erie by a 10-4 decision.

Nick Goebel (Findlay)
Junior Nick Goebel, the top-ranked wrestler in the nation in the 149-pound weight class, went 3-0 for Findlay over the weekend at the Ranger Duals in Kenosha, Wis. Goebel out-scored his opponents by a 25-6 margin at the event and ended the day with a 10-2 major decision win against Wisconsin-Parkside's Frank Yattoni, who is ranked fifth nationally. The Bloomdale, Ohio native has a 24-4 record on the year for Findlay.

Jake Cramer (Tiffin)
Cramer went unbeaten at the competitive Ranger Duals hosted by Wisconsin-Parkside, dominating the field in the 197 pound weight class. He only allowed points to his opponent in one of his bouts, going 3-0 with wins of 17-0 over Indianapolis, 7-0 over Wisconsin-Parkside, and finally 6-3 over Augustana.
