Tiffin's Gray Lands GLIAC Wrestler of the Week Honors

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) selected Tiffin junior Garrett Gray as the third GLIAC Wrestler of the Week for the 2016 season after an impressive performance at the Super Region II Duals in South Carolina.

Highlights: Tiffin junior grappler Garrett Gray continued his stellar season, finishing a perfect 4-0 at the Super Region II Duals held in Hartville, South Carolina. Gray dominated at 285 pounds, opened with a pin in 2:45 over Limestone, then had 5-4 (UNC-Pembroke) and 5-1 (Belmont Abbey) decisions before polishing off his final opponent from Anderson University via pin in just 14 seconds. Overall the Dragons went 5-0 at the event, while Gray is currently ranked 6th in total falls in the NCAA and is the only heavyweight ranked in the top 10.

Nick Goebel (Findlay)
Findlay junior Nick Goebel led the Roughnecks to a 4-1 record at the Super Region II Duals last weekend in Coker, S.C. by posting a 5-0 mark at 149. Goebel is now 30-4 on the year and is the top-ranked wrestler in the nation in his weight class. His best score on Sunday came in his matchup with Zach Dobbins of Newberry. Goebel won that match by technical fall, 16-0. On Saturday, Goebel asserted his dominance by going 2-0. His first bout ended with a pin at 1:55 and his second ended with a 17-4 major decision.

Joe Brandt (Ashland)
Eagle senior Joe Brandt (197 pounds) swept all three of his matches on Saturday, pushing his season record to 18-2. Brandt, the No. 3 wrestler in the country at 197, capped off his three rounds with an 18-5 major decision over Faris Teia of UNC-Pembroke. Brandt is riding an 11-match win streak that dates back to Nov. 21 at the Findlay open.

The highlight of Saturday evening was Brandt reaching career victory No. 100 as an Eagle. Brandt, the No. 3-ranked wrestler in the country at 197 pounds, took down Newberry's Cody Brundage by a 4-1 decision in the first dual of the evening.
