Seven GLIAC Student-Athletes Named to the 2011 Daktronics Women's Soccer All-Midwest Region First Team

Rolla, Mo. – Grand Valley State’s Chelsea Parise has been named the Daktronics Inc., Midwest Region Player of the Year as selected by the region’s sports information directors. The Lakers had seven players earn all-region accolades.

Parise, a senior goalkeeper from Sterling Heights, Mich., was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year. She is 20-1-3 on the season with 15 shutouts and has a goals against average of 0.34. She has allowed eight goals, stopped 70 shots and has a save percentage of .897. Parise ranks first in all of Division II in goals against average and is second in save percentage. She is a three-time First Team All-GLIAC honoree and a three-time Daktronics All-Midwest region selection. It’s the second straight season she’s been named to the first team and she was a second team selection in 2010. Parise has helped lead the Lakers to the Final Four for the fourth consecutive season. Grand Valley, 20-1-3, will play the University of California San Diego in the semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 29 in Evans, Ga., at 12 p.m. (ET).


Joining Parise on the first team are Grand Valley State’s Ashley Botts (F) and Alyssa Mira (MF); Findlay’s Emily Beddoes (F) and Megan Gallaway (MF); Quincy’s Ashley Burton (MF) and Brianna Andert (D); Rockhurst’s Taylor Skala (F) and Kasey Lierz (D); Saginaw Valley State’s Annie Aubrey (MF) and Charley Porter (D); Bellarmine’s Jessie York (D) and William Jewell’s Sarah Franklin (F).


The second team is comprised of Grand Valley’s Kayla Addison (F), Erin Hilbert (MF), Kayla Kimble (D) and Juane Odendaal (D); Northwood’s Alyssa Tomassi (F) and Amanda Watson (F); Wisconsin-Parkside’s Emily Konior (D) and Lauki’i Cheng (D); Indianapolis’s Shelby Spinelli (MF); Quincy’s Brittany Casey (F); Ohio Dominican’s Lauren Pratt(MF); Urbana’s Abby Pearson (MF) and William Jewell’s Kelli Sontag (GK).


All 13 first-team All-Region selections will now be placed on the national ballot for All-America Consideration. The All-America teams are scheduled to be released on Wednesday, November 28. The complete Daktronics Midwest Region teams can be found on the following page.
