BAY CITY, Mich. — University of Findlay senior forward Emily Beddoes (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) was named the 2012 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) women's soccer "Offensive Player of the Year," while Grand Valley State University senior goal keeper Chelsea Parise (Warren, Mich./Stevenson) was named "Defensive Player of the Year" in balloting conducted by the league's coaches.
Ohio Dominican University rookie forward Lauren Pratt (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) was honored with the league's "Freshman of the Year" award, while Michelle Jacob, who guided Michigan Technological University to a share of the 2012 GLIAC Championship, earned "Coach of the Year" accolades.
Beddoes tied for the conference lead with 14 goals during the season. She also tallied four assists and led the conference in points with 32 on the year. The Toledo, Ohio native made a living around the net as she finished second in the conference with 41 shots on goal and registered four game-winning scores on the season.
Parise leads an impressive backline that has only allowed six goals this season and has blanked 15 opponents. She is the main part of a GVSU defense that ranks first in the nation in goals-against average
(0.31) and shut out percentage (0.833). Parise has only give up five goals this year and has recorded 12 solo shut outs. In September, Parise became the Division II leader in career shut outs with 47 and has now surpassed the previous record by 10, owning a career total of 56. The senior owns a miniscule 0.27 goals-against average, while leading a defense that is only allowing six shots per game.
Pratt had an outstanding season, starting in all 19 games for the Panthers while recording a team-high eight goals and tallied three assists. She helped ODU to a 10-6-3 overall record and 6-4-3 mark in
conference. She led all freshmen in the GLIAC in goals scored with eight.
Jacob earned GLIAC "Coach of the Year" honors for the first time after leading Michigan Tech to a 14-3-1 overall record and a share of the GLIAC regular season title in just their third season as a program. The team finished with an 11-1-1 conference record and was undefeated at home this season with a 7-0-1 mark.
