AU, GVSU & ODU Honored on CoSIDA Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team

Full CoSIDA Academic All-District Release

CoSIDA -- The 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District® Women's Soccer Teams have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) landed five honorees from three different programs.

Only first teams were chosen for at-large district recognition, so all honorees will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected in June.

Below are the GLIAC Women's Soccer honorees:

Ashland

Brown is in her second consecutive season as a starter and third overall, and has recorded a goal and an assist in 15 games, while leading a backline which helped the Eagles allow just 13 goals in 2016. A two-time member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Academic Excellence Team, Brown has a 3.99 cumulative grade-point average as an Exercise Science major.

Grand Valley State

Leading the defense to a Division II high 14 shutouts this season, Carlson is a vocal leader and two-way player for the Lakers, showing the flexibility and versatility to be played at multiple positions throughout the pitch and thrive in each. In addition to championing the Laker defense to a 0.23 goals-against-average and a second best national mark of just four goals allowed, Carlson has scored three times this season and assisted on five other Laker goals, proving skills that translate amongst the different lines of play. Carlson, a two-time recipient, is a native of Ada, Michigan, and is majoring in Biomedical Sciences. 
 
Mencotti, a first-time recipient, has been the dominant offensive threat of the 2016 campaign for the Lakers, having netted a team high 21 goals and dished out nine assists in her breakout junior campaign. Leading Division II in total points (51) and tied for the Division II lead in goals (21), Mencotti has helped propel her team to the top of every offensive category in Division II. The Lakers lead all DII institutions in total points (215), goals (74), assists (67), goals per game (4.35) and points per game (12.65). Mencotti is a native of Novi, Michigan, and is majoring in Finance.

Ohio Dominican

Earning her third CoSIDA Academic All-District award, Kozak will be eligible for her second CoSIDA Academic All-America award after being named a second team CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2015. Kozak has started 57 games in her Panther career and has started 14 games this season for Ohio Dominican at defender.

Pavlik is earning her first CoSIDA Academic All-District honor after earning GLIAC Academic Excellence honors and being named to the OSCA Academic Team in 2015. With seven goals thus far in 2016, Pavlik currently ranks in a tie for seventh in the GLIAC in goals scored and also ranks third in shots on goal with 39 and fourth in shots with 69.
