GVSU Reclaims Top Spot in Women's Soccer Rankings

NSCAA Division II Women's Soccer National Rankings

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The National Socer Coaches Association (NSCAA) released it's third national rankings poll, and the Grand Valley State women's soccer team has reclaimed the top spot in the Division II rankings, per the release from the national office. GVSU's upward movement comes as a result of a 5-0-1 record as well as a loss suffered by previously top ranked Columbus State, which dropped to ninth. It is the second time the Lakers have been ranked #1 this season, as the NSCAA Preseason Poll also granted the Lakers the top spot.

Grand Valley State is riding a four game winning streak after suffering a draw in the second game of the season, and have outscored opponents 18-0 during that streak. The Lakers are seventh in Division II in goals (21), tied for fourth in assists (19) and fifth in points (61) so far this season after leading the country in all three of those categories last season.

GVSU will play it's first games of the season as the top ranked team this weekend, as it travels to the Upper Peninsula to take on two GLIAC foes, Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech, to open the conference season. After those games, the Lakers will return home to face Tiffin at GVSU's Lubbers Stadium on September 30th in an attempt to break the NCAA Division II single game attendance record of 3,227, set during the 2009 season.
