GVSU's Mencotti Named D2CCA Women's Soccer Midwest Region Player of the Year; Nine Honored

Grand Valley's Mencotti Named Midwest Region Player of the Year for Second Straight Year; GLIAC Lands Nine Honorees

Rolla, Mo. – Grand Valley State’s Gabriella Mencotti has been named the Division II Conference Commissioners Association Midwest Region Player of the Year for the second consecutive year as selected by the region’s sports information directors.

Grand Valley State had a total of six players earn all-region honors while Quincy had four players earn all-region honors. Ohio Valley and Walsh each had three selections.

Mencotti, a senior forward from Novi, Mich., and the reigning National Player of the Year, has scored 28 goals and 9 assists for a total of 65 points. She is averaging 2.95 points per game and has tallied seven multi-goal games including three consecutive hat tricks. Mencotti is a four-time first team All-GLIAC, two-time GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year and three-time first team All-Midwest Region selection.

Joining Mencotti on the first team are Grand Valley’s Tara Lierman (MF), Dani Johnson (MF), Cecilia Steinwascher (MF) and Shannon Quinn (D); Ohio Valley’s Konstantina Giannou (F), Paula Valbuena and Ana De Costa (D); Quincy’s Mackenzie Rief (F) and Allison Birke (D); Ashland’s Morgan Bittengle (F); Bellarmine’s Taylor Smith (GK) and Ohio Dominican’s Lauren Bates (MF).

The second team is comprised of Walsh’s Olivia Peters (F), Brianna Sanborn (MF) and Alisha Himes (D); McKendree’s Sydnee Carroll (F) and Zoe Brochu (GK); Quincy’s Katie Heiligenstein (MF) and Natalie Quisenberry (D); Cedarville’s Grace Miorelli (MF); Ferris State’s Bri Rogers (MF); Grand Valley’s Ava Cook(F); Kentucky Wesleyan’s Madisyn Hunt (F); Saginaw Valley’s Jennifer Muana (D); Southern Indiana’s Madelyne Junger (D).

All 13 first-team All-Region selections will now be placed on the national ballot for All-America Consideration. The All-America teams are scheduled to be released on Wednesday, November 29. The complete Division II CCA Midwest Region teams can be found on the following page.

The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
