Saginaw Valley's Fleming, Grand Valley State's Steinwascher Named GLIAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards after Week 2 of the 2017 women's soccer season. Saginaw Valley sophomore forward Whitney Fleming earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Grand Valley State freshman defender Cecilia Steinwascher claimed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. NOTE: Labor Day contests were included in Week 1 honors. Week 2 games included contest from Sept. 5 through Sept. 10.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Whitney Fleming, Saginaw Valley

Saginaw Valley sophomore forward Whitney Fleming notched two goals for the Lady Cardinals in helping lead them to a 2-0 weekend. She had the first goal in the team's 2-1 win over ODU on Friday. Fleming added another goal in Sunday's 2-1 win over Findlay, scoring the first goal in that match as well. 


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Cecilia Steinwascher, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State freshman defender Cecilia Steinwascher anchored a backline for the Lakers in two difficult, 2-0, shutout wins against Cedarville on Friday (Sept. 8) and Sunday against No. 10 Minnesota Sate-Mankato. Steinwascher performance was great in the air and in ball tackling, while making sound decisions on the ball in both matches. Steinwascher recorded one shot on goal against #10 Minnesota Sate-Mankato.
