Northern Michigan's Milam, Tiffin's Ortenzi Selected GLIAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards after Week 8 of the 2017 women's soccer season. Northern Michigan senior Allyssa Milam earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Tiffin senior goalkeeper Samantha Ortenzi claimed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Allyssa Milam, Northern Michigan

Northern Michigan senior Allyssa Milam scored the game-winning goal against Ferris State in a 2-1 victory on Friday which helped secure the No. 7 seed in the GLIAC Tournament. Milam then assisted on the lone goal against Grand Valley State in a 3-1 defeat. The NMU goal was the only goal allowed by GVSU in league play this season. 


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Samantha Ortenzi, Tiffin

The Dragons extended their win streak to four games, qualified for the GLIAC Tournament for the first time since 2012, and will host the a postseason game for the first time since 2010, thanks to the great defensive effort put forth by senior goalkeeper Samantha Ortenzi. Tiffin's keeper allowed only one goal over the weekend, collecting 12 saves to bring her career total to 496. After defeating Northwood on Friday, Tiffin needed to defeat Saginaw Valley State to host in the postseason. Ortenzi was up to the task, pitching her second shutout of the season in the biggest game of the season.
