Northern Michigan's Halonen, Ashland's Lee Named GLIAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards after the third week of competition to begin the 2018 women's soccer season. Northern Michigan freshman midfielder Caroline Halonen earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Ashland sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Lee claimed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second consecutive week.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Caroline Halonen - Northern Michigan

Northern Michigan freshman midfielder Caroline Halonen scored six goals and notched three assists to post 15 points for the Wildcats who went 2-0-1 on the week. Halonen registered a school record four goals and one assist vs. Findlandia in a 9-0 victory before she tallied a goal and two assists in a 3-0 win at Purdue Northwest before she scored one more goal in a 2-2 draw at Parkside on Sunday. Overall on the week, Halonen totaled 22 shots including 11 on target.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Hannah Lee - Ashland

Ashland sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Lee allowed just one goal in three games last week, helping the Eagles to a pair of clean sheets against league competition. Lee made six saves in a 5-0 win over Davenport on Friday, including a couple diving efforts and tipping another shot over the bar. She also made six saves in a 0-0 draw against No. 3 Grand Valley State on Sunday as the Eagles snapped a 17-game losing streak to the Lakers and remain unbeaten on the season. Overall on the week, Lee worked 273:15 in net with 12 saves for the Eagles.
