Grand Valley State's Cook, Ferris State's Rogers Named GLIAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards after the sixth week of competition to begin the 2018 women's soccer season. Grand Valley State sophomore forward Ava Cook earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades for the second time this year, while Ferris State University sophomore Bri Rogers claimed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ava Cook - Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State sophomore forward Ava Cook scored four goals on the week while recording 21 shots, including 12 on target as the No. 2 Lakers went 3-0 on the week. Cook posted two goals on her birthday in a 5-0 victory at Cedarville on Wednesday (Oct. 3) before scoring two more goals on Friday's 3-1 victory over Michigan Tech. She finished the week with 10 shot attempts against Northern Michigan in a 1-0 win.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Bri Rogers - Ferris State

Ferris State University sophomore Bri Rogers had a big weekend for the No. 14 Bulldogs as FSU rolled to back-to-back league road wins, stretching their unbeaten streak to 12 consecutive contests. Rogers' play on the back end helped FSU outscore Purdue Northwest and Parkside 8-1 in the two outings combined both played on the road. She notched four total points and nine shots in the weekend with a game-winning goal and four shots on net. All four of her points came in Sunday's 4-1 decision at Parkside with a pair of goals. She broke a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 39th minute and then added another goal only five seconds later to give FSU a 3-1 advantage late in the first half that they would not relinquish. Both goals were unassisted and her play defensively helped FSU limit the Rangers to only five total shots. FSU also gave up only six shots to Purdue Northwest in Friday's 4-0 shutout victory.
