Michigan Tech's Young, Ferris State's Nagel Selected GLIAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards after the seventh week of competition to begin the 2018 women's soccer season. Ferris State University freshman forward Pia Nagel earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Michigan Tech sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Young claimed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Pia Nagel - Ferris State

Ferris State University freshman forward Pia Nagel had a big week as the 12th-ranked Bulldogs stretched their unbeaten school-record streak to 14 consecutive contests with a pair of non-league wins. Nagel tallied a team-high seven points with three goals and an assist on the week while producing nine shots, including seven on goal with two game-winning markers. She tallied the Bulldogs' opening goal for the game-winner as part of a two-goal output on Wednesday (Oct. 10) in a 4-0 victory at Tiffin and then came back with the eventual game-winner again while adding an assist on Sunday (Oct. 14) in a 4-1 non-league triumph at home over Northwood. Nagel broke the school's single-season record for game-winning goals in the win at Tiffin and extended the mark to six this year against NU.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Amanda Young - Michigan Tech

Michigan Tech sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Young notched two more wins in front of the net and picked up a full shutout and one shared shutout thanks to a 3-0 win over Purdue Northwest Friday and a 2-0 victory against Parkside on Sunday. Young stopped eight shots, second most in a match this season, to keep the Rangers off the board in Sunday's match. The two wins run her record to 7-5-1 in 2018 and her saves total now stands at 60, which is tied for second most in the GLIAC. Young has three complete shutouts and three shared shutouts for the Huskies in 2018.
